October 2019 caught us living in Santiago de Chile, around the corner from the “zona zero” of the “estallido social”. Locked in, tear gas and gunshots, I recorded the raw output from a SDR receiver.

Software Defined Radio captures and decodes radio activity on a wide spectrum using a cheap usb dongle and open-source software. Transmissions can originate from taxis, ambulances, police, military, walkie-talkies, air traffic, marine and submarine traffic, digital TV, commercial and amateur radio, satellite communication, electrodomestics, smart objects, etc. I was digging at the materia rather than the message, and seeking stillness.
